Aourd Art Gallery Hua Hin

Aourd Art Gallery is a gallery featuring local Thai artists.  It has a staff of artists trained in Italy, Greece,  and Malaysia and features some of the finest art available in Hua Hin.  We have created art for the Queen of Thailand and were the first Hua Hin artists to paint in gold leaf. 

We are expert at taking any picture or photograph and converting it to a painting in either modern or old style turning it into a true work of art in oil paint, water color paint, chalk or pencil drawing. 

We specialize in landscape, portrait, pet, or family still life painting and also have an extensive collection of ready to purchase art on display in our shop.

The Unique ‘Bai Mai Si Thong’: (The Gold Leaf Bauhinia)

The ‘Bai Mai Si Thong’ or “Bauhinia aureifolia’ as it is scientifically known, literally mens the ‘Golden Leaf’, and has been declared a protected strain of plant by Her Majesty Queen Sirikit.

It was first discovered at Nam Tok Bacho Waterfall, Tambon Bajo, Narathiwat Province (Budo-Su-ngai Padi National Park) on the occasion of His Majesty the King’s visit to the waterfall on 24th March, 1959 and the monogram of King Rama VII was carved onto on side of a stone.

In 1970, this conspicuous strain of plant, Bai Mai Si Thong, which is also known as Yanda-o, at Budo-Su-ngai Padi National Park was granted the botanical nave of ‘Bauhinia aureifolia’ by leading Danih botanists, Professors K and S.S Larsen. The tree is easily identifiable from near or far, thanks to its unique sparkling golden or copper-coloured leaves that shimmer like a rainbow in the morning sunlight.

Usually, the local people of Narathiwat will collect the leaves, framing them to decorate the walls of their homes. It is thought that the original ‘Mongkon’, meaning ‘auspicious’, design on the leaves was drawn by Ajarn Od Srisami on 5th December 2005. The idea quickly proved extremely popular and is now a top-of-the-line product.
