Thai people hold their King and Queen and the Royal Family in great reverence, and nobody should ever show disrespect towards them.
Thailand is a Buddhist country where Buddha images are held sacred. Sacrilegious acts are punishable by imprisonment even if committed by foreign visitors.
Buddhist monks are never to be touched by a woman, or sittνng next to a woman in the bus or train. If a woman wants to give something to monks she will have to give it to a man who can hand it over to monk.
Dress properly when entering a Buddhist temple. Miniskirts and shorts are not allowed. Take your shoes off before going inside the hall of worship. Ladies must not on any account touch a Buddhist monk, give things direct to him or receive things direct from him.
Generally Thai women are conservative. So don't touch them without their consent.
Intimacies in public between men and women are frowned upon.
Call Thais their first names; use the title "Khun" (Mr, Ms & Mrs) for adults. don't be surprised if you are addressed as 'Khun Larry' or 'Khun Brian' instead of by your surname.
Traditionally, Thais don't normally shake hands when greetin one another instead they us a wai (by pressing the palms together at the chest).Generally a younger person wais an elder. If someone wais you, you should wai back (except wai-ed by a child).
Thai people almost always smile. The smiles express gladness and happiness, to thank you, to return a wai of children, and even to excuse small inconveniences and embarrassments.
Since the head is considered the highest part of the body avoid touching people on the head.
The feet are considered the lowes t part of the body. Avoid placing your feet on the table while sitting. Never use your foot pointing out things or touching any part of the body of anyone. This is considered very rude.
Entering a Thai house, you're expected to remove your shoes.
